August 14th, 2024

It is hard to believe it has been over two months since the day of the fire and this crazy process started. It may be surprising to some, like me — that they just started on the building last Wednesday. The process has been lengthy and out of our hands. The insurance company had to do their investigation, the vacuum manufacturer had to do their investigation, and we had to coordinate with the contractors, but the building was recently released and the plan was put in motion.

There is no timetable for me to reopen. Based on how the process has been so far I won’t be surprised if the building isn’t ready until 2025. It does make me sad that I will not be open for the busiest time of the year when you all support me the most. Please remember all of the other great small businesses we have in town.

For those who may not have heard, on June 4th, 2024 a battery in a vacuum that was stored in a closet caught fire and extended to other parts of the store. The fire department did a great job containing the fire damage, but due to the type of fire, all of the contents including the retail floor was a total loss due to smoke damage. The photos attached show examples of displays that were nowhere near the fire, and still received heavy smoke damage.

June 4th was one of the worst days of my life, I saw a big part of my adult life destroyed by fire. I would like to thank everyone who reached out to check on me since the that day, and apologize if I haven’t responded. Shortly after the fire there was a lot of busy work getting things in line, and honestly it was hard to read through all of the comments and messages. A positive thing about all of this is that I had the opportunity to spend the summer with the kids before they both start school this year.

There were a few shipments that were in transit after the fire that I couldn’t cancel or send back. I will be posting them for sale on the Facebook page soon. They will be pickup only and Georgetown Village Hardware has graciously agreed to be the pickup location.

As the kids get back into school I hope to update the progress of the building and other information more regularly. Thank you to anyone who has had me in their thoughts and prayers, I truly appreciate it. See you all soon.

💚Sarah
