October 28th, 2024

Sorry for not posting any updates lately, October has flown by! I hope everyone had a great October and is getting excited for Halloween. Remember that Georgetown’s Trick or Treat is going to be Friday, November 1st this year plus a block party on the square after.

As far as the progress of the store, they are making slow and steady progress. Our contractors tried to use ozone machines to rid the building of smoke, but the building still smells like smoke. Everyone thought this was a strong possibility, but as with anything you try the least invasive method first. With the machines not getting all the smoke out it means that all the drywall in the building will have to be replaced and the brick meticulously cleaned. Before they did all that, because of the age of the building, they had to abate the asbestos on the second floor which had never really been remodeled. Like I said earlier progress has been slow but there is still progress. They were actually working on the retail floor today when we checked in, but there is still pretty much no chance the building will be ready before 2025.

Hopefully you have gotten to this point in the post and past the dreary part. Personally I have made the best out of a bad situation. I have spent a lot more time with the hubby and kids. We even went to Disney over fair break. With both of them in school I even started working two to three days a week at R. Varney in Georgetown, which I really enjoy.

And now for the best part for you guys… If you remember we told you that there was very little fire damage to the retail floor, but the retail inventory was a total loss due to smoke damage. To help offset the insurance deductible and depreciation costs we decided to keep what we could to have a yard sale in the middle of November with heavily discounted prices off retail. There will be items such as our Nora Fleming line, Wax Warmer line, Outdoor decor, and more. Once we get our kids sports schedules confirmed we will post firm dates for the yard sale, but until then we wish everyone a Happy and Healthy Halloween!
