I FINALLY have an update for everyone...
The building has been restored to its pre-fire condition. Although it took some time to complete, you would never guess there had been a fire after walking through it.
Over the last nine months, I’ve had a roller coaster of emotions. Initially, I had the shock and depression of losing something I had worked so hard on over the last seven years, in a single day. I eventually accepted the fact that getting the building restored was going to be a lengthy process. However, as time went on, I began to see the silver lining. Firstly, I enjoyed more quality time with my family, as I could finally attend all of Hayden's basketball games. Usually held on Saturdays, I had missed many of these due to the store's hours. Secondly, I rediscovered my passion for creating. As I mentioned in my last post, I started working part-time at R. Varney to fill my time. Much of my work there involves crafting, from yard signs to wooden ornaments. Recently, I’ve taken on more responsibilities, including designing the online store section on RVarney.com.
I genuinely miss my customers and running a business that I created on my own. However, the extra time with family and the reduced stress that comes with stepping back from retail ownership have significantly benefited me. Over the last nine months, I have had many conversations with my family about what I should to do. With the building nearing completion, it was time to make a final decision. I have just recently started to get to a good place mentally, so I have decided to continue working for someone else without the stressors of ownership. I truly enjoy working alongside Rebecca and am excited to see where her business leads!
That said, the story of Sarah’s Shop isn’t completely over. There's always the possibility of returning to it in the future, especially as my kids grow older. I’ve even been exploring the idea a smaller version of my shop on the second floor. Until then, many of you may not realize all the creations available at R. Varney. There are numerous items that would have sold exceptionally well in my store. I'm eager to contribute to R. Varney’s growth in the retail aspect, utilizing my knowledge and experience from my own shop.
In addition, I will soon be renting out the first floor of my building. We still have a few things on the punch list to complete, but if you know anyone interested in leasing 1,500 sq/ft of prime commercial space in Georgetown, send them my way.
Lastly, we haven’t forgotten about the discounted sale for the inventory with slight smoke damage. The weekend we had planned in November turned extremely cold, so we postponed it until after the building's completion. We will hold a yard sale at our home in Mt. Orab this spring, so stay tuned for dates.
I understand that this post may be disappointing for many of you, but I must prioritize what is best for myself and my family at this time. I appreciate your understanding.
💚 ~Sarah
